Phoenix is a public television broadcaster operated jointly by ARD and ZDF. The ARD side is represented by the WDR. The program of special interest channel, which started as an event, political and documentary channel, consists of event programs, news programs, documentaries, reports, and discussion programs.

Phoenix program

Most documentaries in Phoenix were taken over by ARD publishers or ZDF publishers. There is also the documentary series mein Ausland, in which ARD or ZDF reporters report on the phoenix, with German premieres of English-language documentaries being mostly taken over by Discovery Channel.

Various documentaries are broadcast in the daytime program on Mondays at 5 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., Tuesday to Thursday at 4:00 p.m., and from Monday to Friday from 18:00 and 20:15. Programs may be canceled or broadcast at different times due to current event broadcasts.

Various documentaries will be broadcast on Saturday between 11:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. to 11:15 a.m., usually on a single topic. This also includes Saturday evening at 9:45 p.m. or a documentary as part of the main themes. On Saturday evening at 11:15 p.m. a repeat of the current issue of ZDF history was broadcast.

Beginning at 2:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon, some historical events will be highlighted through the documentaries in the Phoenix History series.

In addition to the repeats, the night program primarily includes documentaries from Discovery – Discovering the World, as well as ZDF Expedition and Terra X. There are also synchronized documentaries from British television, and travel reports from ZDF and arte.
